I’ll give some credit to Gavin Schmidt during the Climategate scandal. At least he’s hearing from both sides of the debate on the Real Climate blog, though there is still some censoring of the comments. But at least there’s a discussion. He does however sound like a PR guy, rather than a scientist. And I’m at least a bit curious as to why he’s the anointed point person for this fiasco rather than someone from CRU.
He is also willing to put his code and data in the public domain, unlike CRU. From the Real Climate blog:
20. Are there any plans to make all your climate data publicly available?
[Response: Already there. GISTEMP, ModelE. We'll put up a more comprehensive listing in the next post. - gavin]
This is progress. To learn more about how GIStemp calculates global temperatures, visit Chiefio, the blog of E.M. Smith. GIStemp is not a pretty picture and the data it produces is suspect at best. Lots of mashing and extrapolating of the data. Read more and educate yourself:
Mr. Smith does a great job at helping us understand what GIStemp is all about. Or not.
